  1. Cardinal Coffee Shop & Lounge

    Situated in suburban San Jose, California, the Cardinal Coffee Shop & Lounge is open 24 hours and is perfect for breakfast, lunch, dinner or desert at any time of the day or night.

    If you fancy a cocktail, or karaoke, go through to the lounge for some old school Vegas atmosphere.

  2. Boeger winery

    This is one of El Dorado County's oldest wineries, located in Placerville, CA. It is also one of the most picturesque wineries in the area.

  3. Downtown, Los Angeles

    The downtown area of Los Angeles, is one of the weirdest, desolate, sad and cold downtowns in the world. LA is a great city, but if you get caught downtown after sunset, the best thing to do is leave.

    This restaurant, previously a General Store, located in the charming Old Elk Grove, is also a brewery of micro beers. The decor was charming and displayed several large, working copper beer making containers.

    When we got there around 6:00, a live band was setting up.

    Isleton Joe's is located in the small Sacramento Delta town of Isleton. (Isleton is known for crawdads and has a crawdad festival in June.)

    The restaurant was charming, clean and busy.

    Landmark granite dome in Yosemite National Park, California USA. One of the most recognizable and visited sights in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

  8. Mono Lake State Reserve

    A massive saline lake in the sierras, Mono Lake has no outlet and is the natural collection point for all of the salts and minerals that wash down out of the mountains. This high mineral concentration has over the many years formed giant tufa, or calcium carbonate spires that jut up out of the lake like stalagmites.

  9. Cerro Gordo

    Often times referred to as the Bodie of southern California, Cerro Gordo was an incredibly wealthy mining town that helped fund the creation of the Los Angeles shipping trade. Now it is a bit difficult to get to on a pretty narrow dirt road that almost certainly requires 4 wheel drive to reach.

  10. Preston Castle

    This "castle", located in Ione, CA, was built between 1890 and 1894 specifically to be used as a correctional facility for young boys. It was in use until 1960 when a new facility was built nearby.
