John Lautner's incredible desert house for Arthur Elrod. A massive concrete roof hung over an indoor outdoor pool with boulders in the living room makes the house feel sort of like a super modern cave.
Wade Edwards, the teenage son of Senator John and Elizabeth
Edwards died in 1996 in a car accident believed to have been caused by a sudden strong gust of wind. The family searched for ways to continue his legacy.
The Desert Hot Springs is pretty small, only 4 rooms, but it is the only hotel designed by John Lautner, the architect that designed the Elrod house. The hotel is a fantastic blend of indoor and outdoor space like all Lautner buildings and has become something of an interpretive Lautner experience.
This park is in Ohio, which is a pleasant surprise. Amazing how you walk down into this lush valley along this beautiful trail!
