Istanbul's Yearly Rocking For Peace Festival Barisarock
Each year, in the height of the summer, a network of social groups organise a free rock festival in a forest just outside of Istanbul. With only a budget of 5000 dollar it is easily visited by fifty thousand people, all there to enjoy an unique 3-day festival, with free entry and camping-space, reasonable prices for drinks and food, over 30 popular and upcoming rock-bands from Turkey and a great ambience.
The Galata Mevlevihanesi is the first lodge of Whirling dervishes in Istanbul, was built in 1491 by Iskender Pasha, the Governor General and Imperial Guard Chief of Sultan Bayezit II. The complex was damaged by a big fire in 1766 and was restored by Sultan Mustafa III to its present form.
Just off the famous Galata bridge in the Eminönü neighboordhoud a big and old market-hall stands in front of you, Istanbul's Egyptian Bazaar. This spice market was built in 1664 and is filled with exotic fragrances such as spices, dried fruits, nuts and seeds, lokum (Turkish Delight).
