Sometime described as the Vatican of Laos, That Luang is the holy place. The yearly festival held in its honour certainly is worth a detour!

Celebrated at full moon in November, this three day long festival is the occasion for faithful worshippers to pay tribute to thousands of monks gathered in mass for the occasion. Families from all over the country converge to Vientiane, the capital city, in order to pray, give alms to the monks and share a meal near the That Luang stupa. Since I was invited to attend the event with a Lao family, I had a chance to really take part to the celebrations. No other countries inspired me respect as much as Laos and since that day I believe there are no words what so ever to describe the generosity of Laotians!
