It's some steps away from the main action on Bourbon, but you'll know Lafitte's when you see it. Dating from the 1770s, it's the oldest building in the Quarter -- possibly in the Mississippi Valley (though that's not documented) -- and it looks it.

About this place:

A bar in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

During my visit to New Orleans in the heat of August, my brother introduced me to the Blacksmith Shop, which isn't a shop at all anymore. It is now a bar in the French Quarter with a historic feel. The dim lighting, beat-up furniture, and brick atmosphere is intriguing and the friendly staff is welcoming to regulars and new comers. This was, by far, one of my favorite bars in New Orleans.
