Evening in the old port

Evening in the old port

Photo was captured after sunset in Dubrovnik's old port. Moored in the port is the recreation of the old Dubrovnik merchant sailing ship.

A flock of seagulls tracing a flight path across the sky can be seen in the photo during the long exposure photo capture.

Late afternoon on the Stradun

Late afternoon on the Stradun

Stradun square in Dubrovnik's old town is really just a very wide street that makes an L shaped turn within the old city walls.

In the background you see the Srdj mountain rising above the city. The old gondola to the top was destroyed during the civil war.

Gradska Kavana's (city cafe) terrace is shaded by the awning visible in the photo, while Knezev Dvor (count's palace) is visible in the foreground on the right hand side.

Up the narrow streets of the old town

Up the narrow streets of the old town

If you decide to walk up the narrow streets of Dubrovnik's old town, you will certainly get some exercise walking up the stairs... most certainly you will get lost too until you eventually find yourself beneath the old stone city walls. However... there you will also find some of the best restaurants and quiet places amidst the hustle and bustle of the city during busy summer months.

If you decide to visit Dubrovnik in the winter, make sure you don't slip down the polished stone stairs...

Remnants of war

Remnants of war

Bullet holes inside the Imperial fortress on Srdj mountain, above the city of Dubrovnik, Croatia.

This old fortress used to be a tourist attraction before the civil war, but in 1991 it was the front line that saw bitter fighting and guarded Dubrovnik from the North.

Croatian city of Dubrovnik endured months of blockade during the civil war that engulfed this small European nation in the 1990s.

Since the end of the war, city has gone through a period of rejuvenation and has become one of the top European tourist destinations.

Photo was captured from the old Imperial fortress high on top of Srd Hill, built during the Napoleonic invasion of the Dalmatian coast.
