The largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe can be found in the City of York, an English city established by the Romans in AD77.
Located half way between London and Edinburgh, York was an important part of the countries defences, and for many centuries protected England against marauding Celts from Scotland.
This huge 600 year old church is well worth visiting, to appreciate it's size, elegance and historical significance.
